Peppermint essential oil is a very stimulating oil, which has wonderful cool, minty top notes with camphor and grass undertones. It is well known for its beneficial effect on the digestive system.
It has a strong analgesic effect making it very useful in the relief of muscular pain including lower back and joint pain. Plus its recommended for myalgia and neuralgia.
Its antispasmodic properties make it one of the most effective essential oils for the digestive system. It relieves indigestion (dyspepsia), stomach pains, diarrhoea and wind. It is also an effective remedy for nausea and vomiting and is good for relieving travel sickness.
It has a beneficial effect on the nervous system in general - it helps people to become clear headed and can help with concentration and mental fatigue. It will help clear up any circulatory congestion to the blood supply to the brain, thus stimulating circulation and strengthening and calming the nerves. It can be very useful in treating headaches - a good way is applying peppermint infused cold compress to the forehead and temples. Freya prefers to blend peppermint with lavender to maximise its effect.
